CALLER FOR MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Responsibilities

NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado is looking for self-motivated, organized, and dedicated callers to work on a membership drive preceding the upcoming 2010 election. The callers will report to the supervisor, and will be responsible for calling lapsed members and acquisition prospects of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado to solicit memberships. Each caller will be responsible for meeting a weekly quota of $700. Primary responsibilities include:

·         Utilizing provided lists to solicit new memberships ($700 per week)

·         Conducting professional, courteous, and friendly phone calls to NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s contact lists

·         Entering the results of the call in NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s database, DonorPerfect

·         Sending pledge materials to members who pledge to donate through the mail

·         Debriefing with supervisor weekly

 

Qualifications and Skills

·         Must be available for the period of August 23 through November 5 (approximately 11 weeks).

·         Passionate commitment to full reproductive freedom

·         Previous fundraising experience preferred

·         Strong oral communication skills

·         Strict message discipline

·         Must be dependable, hard-working, and able to work independently with little supervision

·         Must be able to work under and meet measurable goals as set by the supervisor and fundraising associate

·         Detail-oriented with the ability to follow instructions and collect and manage data

Organizational Overview
NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado, a 501(c)(4) organization, is the political leader of the pro-choice movement in Colorado. We use the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive health choices, including preventing unintended pregnancies, bearing healthy children and choosing legal abortion. The organization leverages its various entities to educate and mobilize voters to vote pro-choice up and down the ballot to defeat Amendment 62 (“personhood” amendment) and to support pro-choice candidates running for the state Legislature.

 
Responsibilities

NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado is looking for self-motivated, organized, and dedicated canvassers to work on a grassroots educational campaign to turn out Colorado’s pro-choice vote during the 2010 election.

Reporting to the political organizer, the canvassers will be responsible for door-to-door canvassing in targeted communities to identify, educate, persuade, and turn out pro-choice voters to defeat Amendment 62, which could ban abortion and the use of hormonal birth control, restrict use of in-vitro fertilization, and have far-reaching consequences on other important life decisions.
Each canvasser will be responsible for cutting turf and meeting contact/ID goals in targeted communities.  Primary responsibilities include:
 
  • Working with the political organizer to cut turf and create walk packets for targeted communities.
  • Door-to-door canvassing with voter education literature
  • Follow-up persuasion contacts with identified voters
  • Meeting measurable goals for canvasses, including knocks, contacts, IDs, and commitments to vote
  • Occasional coordination with coalition partners to avoid duplication of turf
  • Actively participate in ongoing assessment of the organization’s canvass program
  • Participate in post-election analysis of the organization’s canvass program and the organization’s overall civic-engagement efforts

Qualifications and Skills

·         Must be available for the period of August 1 through November 5 (approximately 14 weeks).

·         Passionate commitment to full reproductive freedom

·         Previous canvassing and/or political, community, or campus organizing experience preferred

·         Strong in-person oral communication skills

·         Strict message discipline

·         Must be dependable, hard-working, and able to work independently with little supervision

·         Experience with voter file (VAN) is preferred (though training is available)

  • Calling, e-mailing, and attending local events to recruit volunteers for Choice Vote, NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado's grassroots voter education and mobilization campaign.
  • Planning and running, including recruiting attendees for, campaign kick-off activities in assigned targeted district.
  • Coordinating with coalition partners to plan and run joint field programs as appropriate in targeted district.
  • Updating ChoiceVoteColorado.org, the Web site dedicated to pro-choice electoral activities.
  • Using Web-based social networking tools to recruit youth activists.
  • Coordinating volunteer/activist recruiting and turnout activities with the NO on 62 Campaign.
  • Participating in, running, and/or representing NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado during phone banks, neighborhood canvasses, strategy meetings, get-out-the-vote events and other campaign activities.
  • Working with the political organizer to cut turf and create walk packets for targeted communities.
  • Training volunteers to phone bank, canvass neighborhoods, write letters to the editor, drop literature, raise visibility, and turn out pro-choice voters before and on Election Day.
  • Recognizing and thanking volunteers for their participation in ChoiceVote activities.
  • Tracking volunteer participation.
  • Participate in post-election analysis of campaign

Qualifications and Skills

·         Must be available for the entire period of August through mid-November (exact start date flexible).

·         Passionate commitment to full reproductive freedom

·         Strong written and oral communication skills, including by phone and email

·         Must be dependable, hard-working, and able to work independently with little supervision

·         Experience with volunteer recruitment and/or volunteer management helpful 

·         Must be willing to recruit volunteers by phone

·         Must have interest in learning “political math” to achieve electoral victories

·         Experience with voter file (VAN) is preferred (training is available)

Background

ChoiceVote is NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s grassroots campaign to mobilize the pro-choice vote for Election Day victories up and down the ballot. Campaign interns are needed to position ChoiceVote as the go-to campaign to find out which candidates are pro-choice and how to plug in with campaign efforts to defeat a dangerous anti-choice constitutional amendment and to elect a pro-choice General Assembly, president, U.S. senator and U.S. representatives. Multiple interns will be selected to fill the needs of this position and to delegate duties/responsibilities based on candidates’ interests.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

ChoiceVote campaign intern(s) will work with the political director and the political organizer to roll out ChoiceVote this year. Responsibilities will include:

·         Writing and posting content for the ChoiceVote campaign Web site.

·         Supporting recruiting and planning efforts for summer outreach, tabling, and campaign events.

·         Researching and managing campaign contact information.

·         Researching candidates’ positions on reproductive rights and reproductive health.

·         Creating reproductive health profiles for different regions of the state.

·         Supporting coordination and management of volunteers.

·         Providing additional support for ChoiceVote and the general activities of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado.

SUMMARY
NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado seeks self-motivated individuals to develop and implement an aggressive earned-media/public relations plan to raise public awareness about the reproductive health needs of Colorado women. The successful applicant(s) will have a desire to pitch creative angles to community media to increase awareness about the work of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado.  Multiple interns will be selected to fill the needs of this position and to delegate duties/responsibilities based on individuals’ interests.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Public/media relations intern(s) will work with the political and public education and research directors to dplan and carry out an earned media plan for the duration of the internship. Responsibilities will include:

·         Identifying earned media opportunities based on organizational activities.

·         Writing press releases, blog posts, and other content as necessary.

·         Conducting targeted media outreach.

·         Developing a media database.

·         Planning and implementing earned-media events (i.e., press conferences, community forums, etc.)

·         Providing additional support for the general activities of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado.

 

Qualifications

Political Organizing Intern

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Political Organizing intern will work with the Organizing & Membership Associate to recruit and engage our existing activist base and to further develop our base of members and volunteers. Responsibilities will include:

  • Recruit volunteers for and help organize events to kick off the Choice Vote '10 program, NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado's grassroots campaign to elect pro-choice candidates to the Colorado State Legislature.
  • Assist with community outreach and campaign-related work to mobilize pro-choice voters and activists in targeted communities in Denver and throughout the state.
  • Increase our volunteer and membership base through creative outreach methods, including but not limited to: festivals, community-based events, social networking, and building our online presence.
  • Update our volunteer database.

Qualifications

Prevention First Colorado is a program developed by NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Foundation to address certain reproductive rights issues, such as birth control access, comprehensive sexuality education and lowering the rates of unintended pregnancy in the state and therefore reducing the need for abortions. Prevention First Colorado has highly developed research, public policy and education programs. Currently we are looking for an intern with whom to share this experience.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Prevention First Colorado intern will work with the Public Education and Research Associate to run an updated Emergency Contraception research project. Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Design a research program based on the organizations research projects of 2005 and 2008 to survey pharmacies and clinics throughout the state & assess their knowledge of EC and the rate at which they dispense EC, among other data.
  • Program will include: 
    • A survey and phone call script,
    • Partnerships with NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s volunteer base,
    • Creation of a database to store and sort all information collected, and
    • A written report of findings  

Qualifications

·         Passionate commitment to full reproductive freedom — must be pro-choice!

·         Applicant must have strong written and oral communication skills

·         Applicant must be hard-working, dependable, self-motivated and comfortable conducting extensive research projects.
