Summary:
NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado is hosting its 30th Annual Auction and Celebration! The Coordinator will oversee item procurement, work directly with donors and will assist Development Department Associate as needed for NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s 30th Annual Celebration & Auction.  This is a position where attention to detail is important, the desire to be an active part of a team is critical, and having fun is required.
 

 

Available:  January 16, 2012–May 11, 2012.  The Auction is on Saturday, May 5th, 2012, and coordinator must be available to work that entire day.
Hours:  Full-time.  (40 hours/week, flexible schedule M-Th 9am – 7pm, Fr 9am - 5pm, though mornings are preferred).   Some evenings required, especially during week of April 30.
Compensation:  Position is compensated at an hourly rate of $14 without benefits.
Reports to:  Development Department Associate

Primary Responsibilities:

· Contact and follow up with potential donors and coordinate pick-up of items

· Track donations and maintain up-to-date records in AuctionPay database

· Assist Development Associate in coordination and set-up of auction committee meetings

· Manage volunteers in making follow-up calls to donors as well as on day of event

· Assist NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado development staff as necessary with other tasks

 
Qualifications:

· Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose

·  Attention-to-detail and high level of organization

·  Experience promoting events and related event benefits

·  Experience with volunteers and/or event planning committees

· Familiarity with MS Office products, experience with donor databases a plus

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

· Pleasant, persuasive phone manner and a sense of humor

NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Foundation is looking for a responsible, dedicated, pro-choice student to fill the position of Advocates for Choice Co-Coordinator on the Auraria campus. The NPCCF co-coordinator will work with the co-coordinator intern hired by Planned Parenthood to organize on the Auraria campus. The two co-coordinators will work among their peers to help protect reproductive freedoms and represent the newest generation of the pro-choice movement. NPCCF’s Organizing Associate will support the co-coordinators with mentorship, meetings, event planning help, educational information, campaign materials, and outreach supplies (buttons, stickers, condoms, etc).

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

·         Start a registered pro-choice student group on campus (Advocates for Choice)

·         Gain membership for A4C by hosting events, hosting a table on campus, and participating in national and local NARAL campaigns.

·         Host and lead regular meetings of A4C with fellow A4C coordinator.

·         Create name recognition and influence on campus Advocates for Choice and issues surrounding reproductive health and the pro-choice movement.

·         Share information with fellow students about issues relating to reproductive health care, sexuality education, and upcoming NARAL-sponsored events.

·         Identify campus events in which it is appropriate for NARAL and/or A4C to have an educational or outreach presence or where NARAL might partner as a host.

·         Build and maintain coalition relationships with other campus student groups that are interested in organizing for choice and reproductive freedom.

·         Organize events on campus that relate to a particular holiday or advocacy campaign to build A4C membership and awareness of reproductive justice issues.

·         Participate in NARAL-hosted events like lobby days, celebrations, and policy campaigns.

·         Work in a coalition of diverse groups on campus to carry out program goals

·         Work creatively with your campus chapter to come up with your own projects

 

Qualifications

·         Must commit to a full semester of leadership.  Ideally, candidates will continue in the position long-term.

PUBLIC POLICY INTERN
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The public policy intern will work with the political director and political organizer to manage NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s public policy program. Responsibilities will include:
  • Researching Colorado law regulating reproductive health and rights
  • Identifying opportunities to revise existing statutes to expand access to the full range of reproductive health care options
  • Identifying potential new ally organizations to advance reproductive health care policy in Colorado
  • Facilitating coalitions related to women’s health care and reproductive freedom
  • Updating training materials for 2009 Constituent Lobbyist Network

Qualifications
  • Passionate commitment to full reproductive freedom — must be pro-choice!
  • Applicant must have strong written and oral communication skills and a desire to use the political process to advance public policy.
  • Familiarity with Colorado's constitution, Colorado Revised Statutes, and Lexis-Nexis a plus.
  • Applicant must be hard-working, dependable, self-motivated and comfortable conducting extensive Internet research.
  • Must be able to commit approximately 8-10 hours per week.

PUBLIC/MEDIA RELATIONS INTERN

SUMMARY
NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado seeks self-motivated individuals to develop and implement an aggressive earned-media/public relations plan to raise public awareness about the reproductive health needs of Colorado women. The successful applicant(s) will have a desire to pitch creative angles to community media to increase awareness about the work of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado.  Multiple interns will be selected to fill the needs of this position and to delegate duties/responsibilities based on individuals’ interests.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Public/media relations intern(s) will work with the political and public education and research directors to dplan and carry out an earned media plan for the duration of the internship. Responsibilities will include:

·         Identifying earned media opportunities based on organizational activities.

·         Writing press releases, blog posts, and other content as necessary.

·         Conducting targeted media outreach.

·         Developing a media database.

·         Planning and implementing earned-media events (i.e., press conferences, community forums, etc.)

·         Providing additional support for the general activities of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado.

 

Qualifications

·         Passionate commitment to full reproductive freedom — must be pro-choice!

Prevention First Colorado is a program developed by NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Foundation to address certain reproductive rights issues, such as birth control access, comprehensive sexuality education and lowering the rates of unintended pregnancy in the state and therefore reducing the need for abortions. Prevention First Colorado has highly developed research, public policy and education programs. Currently we are looking for an intern with whom to share this experience.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Prevention First Colorado intern will work with the Public Education and Research Associate to run an updated Emergency Contraception research project. Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Design a research program based on the organizations research projects of 2005 and 2008 to survey pharmacies and clinics throughout the state & assess their knowledge of EC and the rate at which they dispense EC, among other data.
  • Program will include: 
    • A survey and phone call script,
    • Partnerships with NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s volunteer base,
    • Creation of a database to store and sort all information collected, and
    • A written report of findings  

Qualifications

·         Passionate commitment to full reproductive freedom — must be pro-choice!

·         Applicant must have strong written and oral communication skills

·         Applicant must be hard-working, dependable, self-motivated and comfortable conducting extensive research projects.

·         Must be able to commit approximately 10-15 hours per week for a full semester.

Special Events Intern

Organizational Overview

NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado, a 501(c)(4) organization, is the political action arm of the pro-choice movement in Colorado.  Our mission is to develop and sustain a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive health choices, including preventing unintended pregnancies, bearing healthy children and choosing legal abortion. We are seeking a dedicated individual to act as the special events intern, taking primary responsibility for development, coordination and execution of select fund raising events. This individual will report to the Development Associate.  

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

·         Strategize events to engage existing members, and appeal to prospective supporters

·         Coordinate and execute a fund raising event

·         Collaborate with Development Associate to execute logistics and turnout of existing events

·         Assists in procuring and organizing materials necessary for events

·         Research and evaluate events to ensure they are aligned with mission of NPCC

·         Administrative tasks include, but are not limited to, data entry and donor acknowledgements

 

Job Qualifications:

Passionate commitment to full reproductive freedom — must be pro-choice! Applicants should have:

*Strong written and oral communication skills

*Comfort calling supporters and organizations on the phone

*Ability to be innovative and upbeat

*Ability to meet deadlines and stay focused

*Ability to work well with a small, team-oriented, learning environment

* Prior experience in political fundraising a plus

 Ideal applicant will be outgoing, friendly and willing to make connections with people across various backgrounds in person and on the phone.
