NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization, is the tax-exempt entity that supports educational programs that promote reproductive choices. To carry out its work, NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Foundation conducts original research, engages the media, carries out public education and community-outreach activities, educates policymakers to achieve proactive public policy changes, and uses targeted civic-engagement programs to raise public awareness about reproductive health at the ballot box. About NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Foundation's Current Programs Prevention First Colorado Program Since 2006, the Prevention First Colorado has conducted original research to understand the barriers women and their partners face in using birth control to prevent pregnancy when they don't want to become pregnant. This program aims to increase women's and girls' economic self-sufficiency by reducing unintended pregnancy, which research has shown is correlated with increased likelihood to drop out of school, lower educational attainment, and fewer opportunities for professional advancement. Based on the results of that original research, NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Foundation: Became an executive committee member of the Healthy Colorado Youth Alliance to ensure Colorado students have access to age-appropriate, medically and scientifically accurate sex education to make responsible decisions about their sexual and reproductive health Hosted community events to share the results of the research and solicit grassroots support to achieve the policy recommendations Brought together 30+ organizations to support legislation requiring health insurance policies to cover birth control, pregnancy, and delivery costs as core benefits (HB10-1021) Successfully changed rules to allow Advance Practice Nurses to distribute prescription-based birth control, not just prescribe it
