Sample Letter to Your Elected Officials Subject: Vote YES on House Bill 1203 Dear Rep./Sen. [Name]: I am writing to ask you to please vote yes on House Bill 1203, "Concerning Material Changes in Transfers of Hospital Ownership," when it is up for a vote on the floor after conference committee report. This bill will help ensure that hospitals that serve a multi-denominational public fulfill their mission of serving the public good by providing essential medical care based on patients' needs. Some members of the community have erroneously portrayed this bill as an attack on the Catholic group, Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, KS. It is not. Because of its effective date, HB 1203 is NOT expected to affect the pending transfer of Exempla health care facilities to ownership by Sisters of Charity. HB 1203 would simply allow the Attorney General, in determining how intensely to review a transaction, to consider whether there will likely be a reduction in the availability or accessibility of health care services in the communities served by the hospital. I appreciate your consideration and again urge you to vote YES on HB 1203. Please let me know how you cast your vote. Thank you, Your name Your address (to prove you're a constituent)
