I am pro-choice because I have two little sisters that I love and respect. And, as the oldest, it is my job to look out for them, support them and guide them. Whoever they choose to be is fine in my book, as long as they have the space to make that decision on their own. My respect for their individuality includes recognizing that, young though they may be, they have the right to decide what is best for their own lives. They have the right to decide everything about what seems to be the most controversial and personal part of their bodies: their identity as sexual, reproductive beings. To me, the issue is simple: to truly respect and support someone, you have to accept that they have the capability to make their own decisions. To truly respect and support women in this society, you have to accept that they have the capability to make their own decisions about their lives and bodies. So, I am pro-choice for my sisters, believing that they have the right to be supported, to be given every option when it comes to their reproductive healthcare, the right to be treated with respect.
