After Abortion

Ending a Pregnancy: Abortion

AFTER ABORTION

It is normal to have an emotional reaction after an abortion procedure. Most women feel relieved or happy, but some feel sad or guilty. Severe negative reactions after an abortion are rare. You should talk to your abortion provider about your feelings-he or she can also help you find another health care professional to talk with. Many anti-choice ("pro-life") groups claim that a "post-abortion syndrome" exists and has traits similar to post-traumatic stress disorder. Numerous studies have shown no traces of post-abortion syndrome, and no such syndrome is scientifically or medically recognized.
