POLITICAL ARM OF COLORADO’S PRO-CHOICE MOVEMENT
ANNOUNCES NAME CHANGE,
NEW PRO-CHOICE MOBILIZATION CAMPAIGN

DENVER, Colorado, Oct. 21, 2003– Colorado NARAL, the state’s pro-choice political organization, today announced it has changed its name to NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado. The name change has been implemented to more accurately convey the organization’s mission at a glance, and to highlight the organization’s work to ensure that Colorado citizens maintain their rights to the full range of private reproductive choices – including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion – free from government interference.

In addition, NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado is announcing the launch of its largest ever grassroots pro-choice mobilization campaign. “NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s mobilization campaign will include far-reaching efforts to awaken the ‘sleeping giant’ of Colorado citizens who support the right to choose, and the fundamental right to privacy,” noted NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Executive Director Beth Ganz.

“The younger generation of Coloradans have grown up assuming they will always have the right to choose,” Ganz explained. “Simply put, we face daily attacks on reproductive choice and basic privacy rights – at the state legislature, in Congress, in the courts and in front of health care clinics,” she explained. “Our job with this mobilization campaign is to help citizens understand the magnitude of how endangered these rights are, and to take action.”

NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado’s mobilization campaign will include:

• Recruitment of new activists from every corner of the state;
• Public education campaigns to increase awareness about reproductive health issues;
• Legislative lobbying;
• Voter education programs; and more.

“We at NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado recognize that reproductive freedom is gravely imperiled and that the best way to protect it is to mobilize the majority that is Pro-Choice Colorado,” continued Ganz.
