STATEMENT BY NARAL PRO-CHOICE COLORADO EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ON BANISHMENT OF COLORADO RIGHT TO LIFE FROM NATIONAL ORGANIZATION
For Immediate Release Contact: Kathryn Wittneben Executive Director, NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Thursday, June 14, 2007 Office: 303.394.1973, ext. 12 kwittneben@ProChoiceColorado.org DENVER (June 14) – NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado Executive Director Kathryn Wittneben released the following statement about reports that Colorado Right to Life has been expelled from National Right to Life: "Reports of a schism within Colorado’s anti-choice communities reveal only a divide in strategy over how to deny women their fundamental right to make the personal, private decision to bear a child. But let's be clear: the debate within the anti-choice groups is not about whether to deny this right in the first place. "Those who respect a woman’s fundamental right to choose whether and when to have children will not passively wait for Colorado’s anti-choice minority to decide whether to use an all-or-nothing strategy or an incremental-attack approach to deny women access to critical health care. Instead, we call on Coloradans who are genuine in their efforts to reduce the need for abortion to join us in advancing the health of Colorado women and their families by emphasizing prevention first in reproductive health care policies. This common-sense, common-ground approach is the best way to reduce unintended pregnancy, and thereby the need for abortion, in our state. "We believe that every woman in Colorado must have access to the tools, information and resources they need to make responsible, informed decisions about important life issues like whether or when to have children. By supporting common-sense, common-ground, prevention-first policies that empower women and their families to make decisions that lead to healthy lives, families and communities, Colorado can lead the nation in improving and protecting women's health and privacy without denying them safe, legal medical care." NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado (NPCC) is the political action arm of the pro-choice movement in Colorado. NPCC has more than 30,000 supporters statewide and works to develop and sustain a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive health choices, including preventing unintended pregnancies, bearing healthy children and choosing legal abortion. ###
