NARAL Pro-Choice America Releases Overview of
Governor Mike Huckabee’s Record
Huckabee’s victory in Iowa will bring more attention to
his hard-line anti-choice acts as governor

Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, issued the following statement announcing the release of a new profile on presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

“Mike Huckabee’s win in the Iowa caucuses means there could be a presidential nominee who is arguably more anti-choice than even President Bush,” Keenan said.  “The Independent and Republican pro-choice women of New Hampshire, a critical voting bloc in this important primary state, deserve to know the truth about Gov. Huckabee’s extreme position on choice. As governor, Huckabee took multiple opportunities to interfere in personal, private medical decisions for women and their families. We cannot afford another four years of Bush-style anti-choice politics. We will get the message out to New Hampshire voters and continue to focus on stopping any anti-choice candidate who, like Huckabee, threatens to carry on George W. Bush's anti-choice legacy.”

The new profile shows that, when it comes to opposing reproductive freedom, Huckabee is a stand-out. He supports a so-called “human life” amendment to the United States Constitution. Versions of these amendments could lead to bans on not only abortion, but most common forms of birth control, stem-cell research, and assisted reproductive technologies like in-vitro fertilization.

Immediately following Huckabee’s win in Iowa, NARAL Pro-Choice America sent out an email alert to hundreds of thousands of its member-activists highlighting Huckabee’s anti-choice record.
