Where to Find an Abortion Provider: Instructions and Directory

In Colorado, public funding (Medicaid) is available for abortion only in cases of rape, incest and/or to save the life of the woman.

A first-trimester surgical or medical abortion can cost an average of $400 in Colorado. As a result, many women and girls with limited funds must delay their abortions as they try to put together the money they need. This situation can force women into more complicated second-trimester abortions (abortions performed after twelve weeks).

Help is available. Individual abortion providers can often offer financial assistance. There are also two community-based abortion funds located in Colorado that can assist low-income women in covering the partial or full cost of an abortion.

Community-based funds

THE FREEDOM FUND, FIRST UNIVERSALIST CHURCH OF DENVER
In 1984, the First Universalist Church of Denver established the Freedom Fund. Its purpose is to extend religious freedom and equality by offering assistance to women who have few resources.

Eligibility: Pregnancy not more than eleven weeks from last menstrual period; a positive pregnancy test and verification of blood type from a physician or clinic; referral from a helping agency and/or verification of financial need; client understanding and consideration of all available alternatives. Please call for more details, 303-759-2770.

REPRODUCTIVE EQUALITY FUND, WOMEN'S HEALTH
(BOULDER VALLEY WOMEN'S HEALTH CENTER)
Eligibility: Usually patients of the clinic who are residents of Boulder County; limited assistance available for women from other areas of Colorado; must have demonstrated financial need. For details, call 303-442-5160, or visit http://www.bvwhc.org.
