As hospitals merge and change ownership, a growing number of Coloradans are losing access to essential reproductive health care services in their local hospital. Case in point: With the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, KS, becoming the operator of the Exempla Good Samaritan and Exempla Lutheran health care facilities in the metro-Denver area, the hospitals began adhering to the Ethical & Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services. These directives prohibit or severely restrict provision of abortion; contraceptive counseling, drugs, devices and procedures; and assisted reproductive technology.

Have you been denied care at your hospital for essential reproductive health needs?

Personal Stories
I had always been someone who thought people should be able to get an abortion if they found it necessary, but I always assumed I would never be put in the situation where I was facing the possibility of an unplanned pregnancy.
